Kazakh traditional art of Dombra Kuy, Kazakhstan

The art of performing traditional Kazakh dombra kui are included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The decision was made in Paris on the 9th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

 

Kazakh Kuy is a solo composition performed on a traditional pear-shaped, long-necked, two-stringed, plucked musical instrument. Kuy is performed on family gatherings or social events, and as a rule is accompanied by narrated stories and legends. The art of Dombra Kuy plays an important role in strengthening the social unity of Kazakh people and develops the feeling of identity and unity.
